The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) celebrated its 20th anniversary.
What exactly is NIXI?
- NIXI is a not-for-profit organisation registered on June 19, 2003 under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013.
- It’s part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) Vision 1000 Days initiative.
- Its mission is to increase Internet penetration and acceptance in India by alleviating infrastructural issues.
NIXI offers four primary services:
- Internet sharing Points: NIXI establishes and manages Internet Exchange Points, which improve Internet connectivity and data sharing.IN Registry: NIXI manages the digital identity of the.in domain, supporting its adoption and expansion.
- IRINN: Through its Internet Registry and Information Network, NIXI encourages the adoption of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
- Data Centre Services: NIXI-CSC provides secure and dependable data storage services, bolstering the digital ecosystem.
The following are the key initiatives of the NIXI
- IPv6 Expert Panel (IP Guru): A collaboration between the DOT, MeitY, and the community to assist Indian entities in implementing IPv6.
- NIXI Academy: Founded to educate Indians on technologies such as IPv6, which are not normally taught in educational institutions.
- NIXI-IP-INDEX: Created an IPv6 index portal to demonstrate the adoption rate in India and around the world.
