The second phase of the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain (CITIIS) project has been approved by the Union government.

What exactly is CITIIS 2.0?
- It is part of the Smart Cities Mission and aims to promote integrated waste management and climate-reform initiatives.
- The initiative will be carried out in 18 cities chosen through a competitive process.
- The project will take four years to complete, from 2023 to 2027.
The project’s objectives
- CITIIS 2.0 funds competitively selected projects at the city level that focus on circular economy and integrated waste management.
- It also focuses on climate-related reform efforts at the state level, with the goal of strengthening institutions and disseminating information at the national level.
Partners in Implementation
- The French Development Agency (AFD), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the European Union (EU), and the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) are collaborating on the project.
Components
- The project is divided into three primary components:
- Up to 18 smart cities will get financial and technical assistance in creating climate-resilient projects.
- Interventions at the national, state, and local levels to improve climate governance.
- Climate adaptation and mitigation methods should be promoted.
