CITIIS (City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain) Project

The second phase of the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain (CITIIS) project has been approved by the Union government.

What exactly is CITIIS 2.0?

  • It is part of the Smart Cities Mission and aims to promote integrated waste management and climate-reform initiatives.
  • The initiative will be carried out in 18 cities chosen through a competitive process.
  • The project will take four years to complete, from 2023 to 2027.

The project’s objectives

  • CITIIS 2.0 funds competitively selected projects at the city level that focus on circular economy and integrated waste management.
  • It also focuses on climate-related reform efforts at the state level, with the goal of strengthening institutions and disseminating information at the national level.

Partners in Implementation

  • The French Development Agency (AFD), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the European Union (EU), and the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) are collaborating on the project.

Components

  • The project is divided into three primary components:
  • Up to 18 smart cities will get financial and technical assistance in creating climate-resilient projects.
  • Interventions at the national, state, and local levels to improve climate governance.
  • Climate adaptation and mitigation methods should be promoted.
