[A] Digital television receivers
- BIS has issued Indian Standard IS 18112:2022 for televisions with built-in satellite tuners.
- TVs built to this Indian standard would be able to receive Free-To-Air TV and Radio channels simply by connecting a dish antenna.
- This would make it easier to spread information about government initiatives, schemes, and educational content from Doordarshan and the repository of Indian cultural programs.
- Currently, TV viewers in the country must purchase a set-top box in order to watch various paid and free channels.
[B] USB Type C receptacles
- The Indian standard IS/IEC 62680-1-3:2022 USB Type-C® Cable and Connector Specification has been published by BIS.
- This Indian standard is based on the international standard IEC 62680-1-3:2022.
- This standard specifies the requirements for USB Type-C ports, plugs, and cables for use in a variety of electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptop computers, and notebook computers.
- This standard would provide common charging solutions for the country’s smartphones and other electronic devices.
- This would allow for a reduction in the number of chargers per consumer because consumers would no longer need to purchase multiple chargers or generate e-waste.
[C] Video Surveillance Systems (VSS)
- BIS has developed a series of Indian Standards (IS 16910) on Video Surveillance Systems for use in Security Applications through its technical committee on Alarms and Electronic Security Systems.
- IS 16910 is an adaptation of the International Standard IEC 62676 series.
- It provides a detailed outline of all aspects of a VSS System, including requirements for its components, such as camera devices, interfaces, system requirements, and tests to determine the image quality of the camera devices.
- This will also contribute to the surveillance system becoming more secure, robust, and cost-effective.
