- Skytrax, a UK-based firm that specialises on airline and airport research, presents the Skytrax World Airport Awards on an annual basis since 1999.
- Since then, it has established itself as a global authority in airline and airport research, with a reputation for extensive passenger surveys and significant awards.
- These awards are widely regarded as the “Oscars of the aviation industry.”
- There are other award categories, including Best Airport, Best Regional Airport, Best Airport Terminal, and Best Airport Staff.
Evaluation criteria
- It include thorough assessments of check-in, arrival, transfer, shopping, security, immigration, and departure procedures.
- During a seven-month survey period, airport consumers of over 100 nationalities from 550 airports around the world provided feedback for the assessment.
Winners of 2024 Awards
- Doha’s Hamad International Airport has taken the top rank, dethroning Singapore Changi Airport, which had held the title for 12 years.
- Hamad International Airport is acclaimed for its architectural significance and exquisite amenities, with an area comparable to 75 football fields.
- Seoul Incheon Airport ranked third overall and was named the most family-friendly airport.
Key Indian airports’ performance:
- Delhi Airport remains ranked 36th overall.
- Mumbai Airport fell somewhat, from 84th to 95th place.
- Bengaluru Airport improved significantly, rising 10 ranks to 59th place from 69th previous year.
- Hyderabad Airport also improved, moving up to 61st place from 65th.
- Goa’s Manohar International Airport finished 92nd in the overall rankings.
