The APJ Abdul Kalam SLV, India’s first hybrid rocket, has been launched

Some students from Pattipulam village off the coast of Tamil Nadu launched India’s first hybrid sounding rocket by private players.

APJ Abdul Kalam SLV

  • Martin Foundation in association with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation and Space Zone India successfully completed the project known as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Satellite Launch Vehicle Mission 2023.
  • The student team included 200 from the Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry fishermen community, 100 from tribal communities across India, and 60 from Tamil Nadu.

Hybrid Rocket

  • A hybrid rocket engine combines the best features of both liquid-fueled and solid-fueled rockets. The use of a syringe as a syringe is not uncommon.
  • A polymer, such as hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), is cast into a cylindrical shape and placed inside the rocket motor to serve as the solid fuel in a hybrid rocket.
  • The term “sustainability” refers to the process of reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.

How does it function?

  • When the oxidizer is introduced into the combustion chamber, it reacts with the solid fuel, producing a hot gas that is expelled through the rocket’s nozzle.
  • The word for the day is that the weather is getting warmer, which means that the weather is going to be warmer as well.

Advantages over conventional rockets

  • Hybrid rockets are generally easier and less expensive to build than liquid rockets, while providing more control than solid rockets.
  • They are also safer than liquid and solid rockets because the fuel and oxidizer are stored separately and can be easily turned off in an emergency.
